Green for Go! - Garden waste collections begin in Herefordshire

Herefordshire Council’s new Garden Waste Collection Service started on Monday 30 March 2026 with the first collections continuing across the county until Friday 10 April.

The Garden Waste Collection crew was out in force in and around Ledbury as the service kicked-off in fine style.

The waste collected is turned into compost and fertiliser, which can be used in gardening and the agricultural industry to support local green growth.

With the collections now in full swing, residents who have signed up for the scheme are reminded to have their garden bins ready.

Customers can check when their bins will be collected using the Council’s Check your bin collection day tool.

So, what can you put in your garden bin? Grass cuttings, hedge clippings, leaves, twigs, small branches, dead flowers, weeds, and windfall fruit.

The service costs £60 per year — plus a £10 bin delivery fee — and is flexible: share bins with neighbours, add extra bins, or transfer your subscription if you move home.

Herefordshire Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for the Environment, Cllr Elissa Swinglehurst, said:

“Its fantastic that the first garden waste collections are underway! Dont forget to put your bins out so you can be among the first to enjoy this convenient and eco-friendly service. And if you havent signed up yet, there’s still time — don’t miss out!”

Check your date and make sure your bin is out, and get ready to keep your garden tidy, green, and growing.

Haven’t signed up yet? There’s still time — join in and be part of Herefordshire’s new Garden Waste Collection Service.
