Vikings lead museum’s November activity programme

Herefordshire Museums & Galleries have a bumper programme of activities lined up this November, including a Viking-themed quiz night and several expert talks.

The ‘Can I Axe You a Question’ quiz night will take place on Thursday 6 November from 7pm-10pm at The Yard, 32 Aubrey Street, Hereford HR4 0BU. You can expect a lively Viking-themed quiz, filled with trivia and challenges and hosted by Herefordshire Black Crows*. Bring your own team of up to six people – or come along and join others on the night. This is a free event, but please reserve your place(s) online.

For those with an interest in art history, art curator Emalee Beddoes will be hosting a talk on Duncan Grant and his sketch ‘Toulon Harbour’, bequeathed to Hereford Museum and Art Gallery in 1959. Taking place at Hellen’s Manor near Ledbury on Wednesday 5 November at 2pm, this is the latest in our ‘Collections on the Road’ series. It’s free to attend but please reserve your place online.

There’s an opportunity to find out more about the famous Herefordshire Hoard on Wednesday 13 November at the History Store Hereford, from 5.00-6.30 pm. Our Collections and Engagement Curator of Archaeology will provide a fascinating lecture on the Hoard’s Anglo-Saxon and Viking currency and how these remarkable objects found their way to a field near Leominster. There is no charge to attend but please reserve your place online.

To end the month, on Saturday 29 November from 1.30-3.30pm, we are holding another of our Saturday Spotlight Talks. Angela Williams will offer ‘A Munitionette’s View’, focusing on the dangers, dramas and day-to-day routine at the Rotherwas munitions factory during World War One and World War Two. Taking place at The History Store Hereford, there is a small charge of £5 plus booking fee to attend – please reserve your place online.

Throughout the month of November, we will be continuing with our playful sensory, story-telling and fun activity sessions for early years and SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) children.

On Monday 10 November from 10.30am-12pm it’s time for ‘Baby Pips’ (children aged 0-2 years) and from 1pm-2.30 pm on that same day, ‘Twinkle Pips’ (SEND children) have their turn. On Tuesday 11 November from 10.30am-12pm ‘Little Pips’ (children aged 2-4 years) are welcomed. All sessions take place at The History Store Hereford and there is a charge of £5 per child plus booking fee to attend with their accompanying adult. Please reserve your place online.

All events can be booked via Herefordshire Museums & Galleries Eventbrite page
