Apprenticeship Awards to Celebrate Local Excellence

Herefordshire Council is proud to announce the launch of the first-ever Apprenticeship Awards, a new initiative designed to celebrate the achievements of apprentices, employers and training providers across the county.

Hosted by the Herefordshire Growth Hub in partnership with local training organisations, the awards will take place during National Apprenticeship Week 2026 and will shine a spotlight on the individuals and organisations helping to build a skilled, future-ready workforce.

The awards are being delivered in collaboration with Herefordshire, Ludlow and North Shropshire College, Herefordshire and Worcestershire Group Training Association and Riverside Training and will be part-sponsored by The Marches Careers Hub.

Cllr Graham Biggs, Cabinet Member for Economy and Growth, said: “Apprenticeships are an opportunity for people to earn while they learn, getting hands on experience in the workplace without building up debt. They help young people build meaningful careers and give businesses access to the talent they need to thrive.

“These awards will not only celebrate success but also raise awareness of the incredible opportunities available through apprenticeships in Herefordshire.”

David Williams, Chair of the Herefordshire Skills Board and Principal of Herefordshire, Ludlow and North Shropshire College, added: “Apprenticeships are a vital part of our local economy. They offer young people a real chance to learn, earn and grow, not just in terms of technical skills and qualifications, but also in confidence, independence and ambition.

“These awards are a fantastic way to recognise the people and organisations who are making a real difference, from the apprentices themselves to the employers, mentors and educators who support them.

“It’s about celebrating success and inspiring others to see the value and potential of apprenticeships.”

The launch of the Apprenticeship Awards follows the success of the Employment & Skills Conference, hosted by the council last month at Plough Lane.

The event brought together over 100 delegates from across the business, education and training sectors to explore how to create better paid jobs and meet the region’s future skills needs.

A video capturing the highlights from the conference is available here.

Businesses and training providers interested in taking part in the Apprenticeship Awards are encouraged to contact the Growth Hub at business@herefordshire.gov.uk to register their interest.
