Statement from the Leader of Herefordshire Council following the fatal collision involving a council contracted service provider in Leominster

West Mercia Police have today, Tuesday 11 November confirmed the death of a man in his 60s following a road collision Leominster this morning. Police also confirmed that two other occupants of the vehicle were injured, after it was in collision with a building in Mill Street at approximately 06:40am. The vehicle in question was a recycling collection vehicle operated by FCC Environment – a contractor delivering waste services on behalf of Herefordshire Council.

Cllr Jonathan Lester, Leader of Herefordshire Council said: “We are deeply saddened by the death of a council-contracted worker following a road collision in Leominster this morning (Tuesday 11 November). Although not a direct employee of the council, he was a part of our wider council family, delivering services to residents across the county. On behalf of Herefordshire Council, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues at FCC Environment where he worked. We also send our thoughts to the two other individuals injured in the incident and wish them a full recovery. I want to thank all the emergency services, council staff and responders who attended today’s incident for their professionalism in extremely difficult circumstances. We will continue to work closely with our partners to assess the situation and enable the continuing response and investigation.”

West Mercia Police issued a statement on the incident that took place in Leominster this morning - our thoughts and condolences are with those involved and families affected by the incident.

Emergency services respond after bin lorry collides with building

Earlier today (Tuesday 11 November) emergency services responded after a bin lorry collided with a building in Mill Street in Leominster.

The incident happened at shortly after 6.40am this morning, it has now been confirmed that sadly one man has died.

A multi-agency response has been set up, co-ordinated through the Herefordshire Tactical Co-ordination Group (TCG).

Speaking on behalf of the TCG, Superintendent Helen Wain, has provided the below update:

Shortly after 6.40am this morning emergency services responded to a report a bin lorry had collided with a building in Mill Street in Leominster.

Three people were in the vehicle at the time of the collision and it has now been confirmed that sadly a man in his 60s, who was a passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and a second passenger were treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The building was empty and no one else was injured.

On behalf of all agencies, our thoughts and condolences are with those involved and families affected by the incident.

A cordon remains in place while the fire service and local authorities continue to work to make the building safe. Roads surrounding the building are closed and are expected to remain closed for some time. We ask you to avoid Mill Street and the surrounding area and find an alternative route."

Herefordshire Council statement below relating to the waste collection vehicle collision with a property in Leominster on Tuesday 11 November 2025.

A spokesperson for Herefordshire Council said: "At approximately 06:45 this morning a waste collection vehicle collided with a property at the junction of Mill Street, Bridge Street and Broad Street, Leominster. We are working with our partners to assess the situation. We are asking people to avoid the area to allow the emergency services to safely carry out their work. Our thoughts are with those involved in the incident and their families. We would like to thank the emergency services for their swift response. Further updates will be issued when more facts are known."
