Lea Church of England Primary School has gained ‘Healthy Schools Status’ by demonstrating that they met all of the criteria in the free public health programme, which aims to support the health and wellbeing of pupils and their families.

The school staff worked closely with Herefordshire Council’s Public Health Team to encourage their children to choose healthier foods and drink, take part in regular physical activity, look after their emotional health and wellbeing and practice good oral hygiene routines.

Councillor Carole Gandy, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said:

“Well done to everyone at Lea Church of England Primary School on becoming the first primary school in the county to complete our Herefordshire Healthy Schools programme.

“The staff, pupils and their families have all embraced the programme and their approach to improving the health and wellbeing of their school community has earned them the very much deserved Healthy Schools Status.”

“I am incredibly proud of our dedicated staff and wonderful children whose commitment to wellbeing and healthy living made this achievement possible.”

The Healthy Schools programme is part of the government’s ‘Best start in life’ initiative and is supported by Herefordshire Council’s Public Health Team.
