Get involved in the Great Herefordshire Spring Clean

Local people across the county are coming together to clean up their communities this spring – and you could be one of them

The Great Herefordshire Spring Clean is running from Friday 21 March – Sunday 6 April 2025, and aims to empower local communities to cut litter, improve public spaces and educate future generations on responsible waste disposal.

Notable events this year include a Hereford Community Clean Up Group litter pick along the Great Western Way in Hereford. The group will be picking litter and removing or reporting fly tipped items 10am-12midday on Friday 28 March, working their way North from Hunderton Bridge towards the Courtyard, including Beaumont Gardens and all the way down to Widemarsh Common. Parking is available at Hereford Rugby Club

There will also be organised litter picks on Ledbury Town Trail, and Ross Town Trail, alongside events organised by Parish Councils and Community Groups. Cllr Elissa Swinglehurst, Cabinet Member Environment, will also be taking part in a litter pick near KFC in Ross-on-Wye.

People can find their local litter picking group on our website and groups can get involved by registering their interest with Balfour Beatty Living Places (BBLP) at communities@balfourbeatty.com

Once registered, groups can collect and sign for the loan of litter picking kits and purple waste sacks from the BBLP depot on Thorn Business Park, Hereford.

Cllr Barry Durkin, Cabinet Member Roads and Regulatory Services, said: “The Great Herefordshire Spring Clean is a great opportunity for us all to work together and celebrate, for the benefit of the environment, what can be achieved with teamwork and pride in our local communities. “I will be attending the litter pick on Great Western Way and I would like to encourage other community leaders and those who want our county to become litter-free and beautiful to get involved however they can!”

Groups and individual litter pickers are also encouraged to share their success stories throughout the Great Herefordshire Spring Clean by stories by sending pictures to communications@herefordshire.gov.uk
