Leominster and Hereford Fairs to return to the County’s streets this spring

Heart-stopping rides, side-shows, food stalls and ancient ceremonies are all part of the street extravaganzas which comprise the Leominster and Hereford Mayfairs.

The streets come more alive during each three-day festival as thousands flock into the town and city centre, including some from other counties, to enjoy the festival atmosphere and wide selection of entertainment.

Leominster fair will take place 1-3 May inclusive and Hereford on 6-8 May inclusive.

The Fair organisers have kindly arranged to open some free fairground rides exclusively for disabled people and their helpers (one helper per disabled person) at the following times and locations:

  • Hereford Fair: Meet at the bull statue, High Town, Thursday 8 May, 10.30-11.30
  • Leominster Fair: Meet at Corn Square, Friday 2 May, 10.30-11.30

Cllr Durkin, Cabinet Member Roads and Regulatory Services, said: “Both fairs remain a popular and important part of our county’s heritage, with Hereford being the oldest surviving charter fair in Britain, granted by the Bishop of Hereford in 1121.  We are delighted to welcome them back to the streets once again and encourage all fairgoers to visit and enjoy their experiences but to look to their own safety as they enjoy these events”

Abie Morris, on behalf of the Morris family, said: “We are pleased to once again return to the town of Leominster so we can provide the pleasure and enjoyment that the fair gives to so many people. We look forward to seeing you and giving you a time to remember with the many attractions we will be bringing!”

Henry Studt, Chairman of the South Wales and Northern Ireland Section of The Showman’s Guild, said: “We are proud to present Hereford’s Mayfair once again. A warm welcome awaits when you join us at this historic and impressive traditional fun fair. Come and join us for excitement and laughter from riding the heart-stopping white knuckle rides to bumper to bumper fun, not forgetting the thrills of the children and traditional rides. From rides to stalls we have it all.”
