Herefordshire children enjoyed exciting free activities during the summer holidays

Local activity providers offered a wide range of free activities across the county

More than a thousand children and young people who receive free school meals took part in a range of special summer holiday activities organised by Herefordshire Council’s Talk Community Team.

Children and young people were given a huge choice of activity sessions across the county with more than 41 organisations running sessions ranging from den building, tennis, dance, arts, crafts, football, drama and farm visits. Children also received a free meal at every session.

Councillor Carole Gandy, Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Wellbeing, said:

“Thanks to funding from the DfE the council’s Talk Community Team has been able to offer a full programme of activities to keep over a thousand children and young people entertained, active and safe throughout the summer holidays.”

Councillor Ivan Powell, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, added:

“It’s encouraging to see so many families making use of the free activities. The cost of living crisis means these are very difficult times for many people, so we are pleased to be able to provide this service thanks to government funding.

“The support of the county’s fantastic local activity providers means children have access to a huge range of activities and the opportunity to learn new skills, make friends and have great fun throughout the holidays.”

The Here for Herefordshire holiday programme is funded by the Department for Education and is co-ordinated by the council’s Talk Community team in partnership with a wide range of local organisations to offer a rich variety of free indoor and outdoor activities right through the summer break.
