Many items from Herefordshire Libraries collection of local newspapers, photographs and maps are now available online at our Herefordshire History website.

Local history books

Most libraries have a selection of local books for loan. Lending copies of local history books may be requested online and collected from any Herefordshire library.

Newspapers on microfilm

Copies of some years of the Hereford Times, Hereford Journal and other historic local newspapers are available at the Herefordshire Archive and Records Centre. To check whether the newspaper title/year you want is available and to book a microfilm reader, please contact the Archives team before your visit, email archives@herefordshire.gov.uk or call 01432 260750.

Family history

The Ancestry online resource is available free of charge on public computers in all our libraries and at HARC. This provides access to parish records, census returns, electoral registers and trade directories. See our online resources.

Enquiries

We are able to carry out small enquiries but we do not have the capacity to undertake research on behalf of customers. Herefordshire Archives and Records Centre have a research and copying service which may be able to assist with your enquiry.
