Books on Prescription in Herefordshire
The Books on Prescription scheme is a way to help people with common mental health problems, such as anxiety, depression, phobias and eating disorders.
Under the scheme, GPs or other health professionals can prescribe a proven self-help book, which can be borrowed free of charge from any Herefordshire public library.
Herefordshire libraries has produced a downloadable list of recommended books for the scheme.
There is a national Books on Prescription scheme. All the recommended books can be borrowed from Herefordshire Libraries. It is free to join the library and there are no fines charged on the Books on Prescription books.

Reading Well - Long term conditions
The latest list of Books on Prescription books focuses on supporting those living with long term conditions such as arthritis, bowel conditions, diabetes, heart disease and stroke. The new 28 title book list of health information, self-help and memoir has been developed to offer guidance and factual support to those living with illness and their carers. With these recommended books, people living with long term conditions can find answers to some of the questions that may be on their minds - from dealing with pain, fatigue and sleeping problems, to relationships and mental health and wellbeing.

Reading Well - For young people
Reading Well for young people provides 13 to 18 year-olds with support and advice on common mental health issues. The books are all expert endorsed and available to borrow for free. They include self-help and information titles, memoir, graphic novels and fiction. See the full young people's mental health book list.
The books are available at Hereford, Leominster and Ross libraries and can be reserved at, and sent to any library in the county.
Reading Well - Dementia books
The latest Books on Prescription dementia collection recommends books you might find helpful if you have dementia, are caring for someone with dementia or want to find out more about the condition.
The books include help after diagnosis, information and advice, practical support for carers and personal stories. The collections of 25 books can found at Hereford, Leominster and Ross libraries.
