Educational psychology

Educational psychology is concerned with children and young people in educational and early years settings, between the ages of 0 and 25. Herefordshire psychology service supports staff and parents in these settings to understand and help children and young people who have a variety of challenges. These include learning and social and emotional difficulties, issues around disability as well as more complex developmental conditions.

We work in a variety of ways including through observations, assessments, interviews and offer consultation and advice. We often provide training to teachers and learning support assistants and others working with children.

The team also:

  • Completes statutory psychological assessments of children and young people for Herefordshire Council as part of the Education Health and Care (EHC) plan process
  • Offers a service to children and young people who have not reached this statutory level of need, which schools can buy
