Supporting children with English as an additional language (EAL)

There are increasing numbers of children entering Early Years settings for whom English is not their home language. Many practitioners in settings across Herefordshire already work successfully with children and families who speak languages other than English. For some settings however it may be a new experience.

If you have children with English as an Additional Language (EAL) starting at your setting you will want to ensure that they and their families feel welcomed and comfortable; and that the children are fully included and make good progress.
