Stopping smoking is possible. Over 11 million ex-smokers in the UK have proved that and it's never too late to quit!
As well as being the most powerful thing you can do to improve your health, stopping smoking has lots of other benefits too, as it will:
- Cut the chances of your children getting bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma attacks, meningitis and ear infections
- Save you money - around £250 a month if you are a 20 a day smoker, find out how much you could save
- Improve your breathing and general fitness
- Make your skin and teeth look better and mean you no longer smell of stale tobacco
Help to stop smoking
With the right advice, support and encouragement you are four times more likely to stop smoking and stay quit. So, if you are among the seven out of ten smokers who want to stop and stay quit, help is available locally. For instance, you can sign up for a free 12 week quit programme to get phone or face to face consultations with an NHS stop smoking adviser who can discuss treatment options with you, monitor your progress and provide ongoing support. Pharmacies across Herefordshire have signed up to become accredited Stop Smoking sites, where you will find help and support to quit smoking.
Your GP, most pharmacies and Halo leisure centres can also help you. And you can get a quit smoking app from Smokefree. We also have leaflets on the importance of not smoking during pregnancy and how not to gain weight after quitting. You can get more information from NHS Choices.
