Voting if you have a disability

Everyone has the right to vote independently and in secret when there is an election. So it is important that you can do this, even if you have a disability. To check if you are already registered, contact our Electoral Services Office.

If you aren't already registered to vote you can do that on our registration page.

Harry, who works for Mencap and has a learning disability, has shared his own experiences of voting in a polling station.

Voting at a polling station

All polling stations in Herefordshire are accessible, but if you need help when you get there, just ask one of the polling station staff. They are trained to help in any way they can.

If you find it hard to see, there is a magnifying glass, a blind selector device and a copy of the ballot paper in large format in every polling station. Find out more about accessibility at polling stations.

Voting passport

A voting passport is an A4 sheet of paper to hand to polling staff so they easily can understand the reasonable adjustments needed to enable you to vote.

You can download your own voting passport – or they will be available at the polling station on the day.

Voting by post

If it would be difficult for you to vote at a polling station, you can register for a postal vote, or a proxy vote so you can nominate someone to vote on your behalf.
