Online resources

These online resources are free of charge, and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for library members. They're great for homework, research or general enquiries.

Ancestry and Access to Research are only accessible free from library computers. All other resources can be accessed in libraries or from home.

To access resources from home you will need your library card number.  If you don't have a library card yet, you can join the library online.

Herefordshire History

Herefordshire History is a new project run by Herefordshire libraries to digitise unique local material from Herefordshire's libraries, archives and museum collections with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Browse photographs, newspapers, letters and diaries from Herefordshire's past. For more information on the project see our Herefordshire History webpage.

Access to Research

Access to Research provides walk-in access to high quality academic research, available in UK public libraries. Over 1.5 million journal articles and conference proceedings are available to view using public computers in any Herefordshire Library with public computer access. Access to Research has been launched under the leadership of the Publishers Licensing Society.

Ancestry

Ancestry helps you build your family tree with access to a vast number of records from the UK and abroad, including the UK census from 1841-1901 and birth, marriage and death indexes. It is only available free of charge from computers in libraries: Enter Ancestry

You may also access the site from home via the link, but Ancestry will charge you to access some information. Alternatively you may prefer to take out your own subscription to their website.

Encyclopedia Britannica

Encyclopedia Britannica is one of the world's best known encyclopedias. It's perfect for homework and research, and available in three different versions to suit all age groups.

Find Groups is a fully searchable database of voluntary and community organisations in Herefordshire - everything from bridge clubs to meals on wheels services. Theory Test Pro

Theory Test Pro is a highly realistic online simulation of the UK's driving theory test. It contains the official practice test question bank, hazard perception video clips and an online version of the Highway Code. All this material is licensed from the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), the people who set the tests.

Access to Theory Test Pro is completely free for residents who call in to any of the Herefordshire Libraries. Members of Herefordshire Libraries can also access Theory Test Pro from outside the libraries using their library card number.

When you first use Theory Test Pro, you will need to register with your name, email address and password. There is no charge for this. This information allows Theory Test Pro to save your test scores so you can follow your progress as you practise for the test.

You will need a valid email address to sign up for Theory Test Pro.

If you sign up from home or anywhere else outside of the library, you will also need a valid library barcode number, available on your library card.

The Times Digital Archive

The Times Digital Archive provides access to a fully searchable digital collection of the Times newspaper from 1785-1985.
