Trading during coronavirus and social gatherings

Under the new Health Protection (Coronavirus) Regulations, environmental health and trading standards are:

  • Advising local business about businesses that can remain open during the national lockdown period and those that should stay closed to the general public
  • Working closely with West Mercia Police to ensure that social gatherings during the national lockdown are immediately dispersed

To report a business which is open to the general public and you believe should not be or to report a social gathering:

Your complaint will be passed to the duty officer patrolling that area of Herefordshire and:

  • For business premises that should not be open - if the business premises is not permitted to be open under the new regulations, the officer will advise the owner that the premises should be closed immediately. If the business remains open and is considered to be in breach of the regulations a formal notice for closure of the business will be issued
  • For social gatherings - we will liaise with police colleagues regarding visiting the location in order to disperse the crowd. If necessary fines will be issued to ensure compliance of the regulations
