Rural rate relief
Our discretionary rate relief policy provides guidance on when you might be eligible for rural rate relief. If your business is in a rural village with a small population, you may qualify for rate relief of 100 percent.
The 2016 Autumn Statement confirmed the doubling of rural rate relief from 50 percent to 100 percent from 1 April 2017.
You can check if your property falls into a rural settlement area.
Your business qualifies for rural rate relief if it is:
- The only general store or post office in the village, and has a rateable value up to £8,500
- A food shop with a rateable value up to £8,500
- The only pub or petrol station in the village, and has a rateable value up to £12,500
