TravelFund grant 2017-2020
This scheme is now open for applications for 2019/20 funding
Supported by Access Fund from Department for Transport
Herefordshire Council's TravelFund grant offers funding for facilities to support sustainable travel to work, and to help reduce business mileage.
We will consider any facilities that make it easier for your employees to walk, cycle, catch the bus or train, or car-share to work. Also, any facilities that support working from home or that reduce the need to travel by car on business. Examples include:
- Facilities for walkers and cyclists e.g. storage, lighting and changing facilities
- Pool bikes, including folding and electric bikes and cargo, for business use
- Remote working and videoconferencing equipment
How do we get advice on which facilities suit our business?
In addition, a Travel for Work representative can provide advice on completing your application. Please contact us using the details below.
Who is eligible to apply for the TravelFund Grant?
Businesses or organisations that have registered as a member of the Travel for Work Hereford network are eligible to apply for the grants. The Travel for Work network is a free service open to all Herefordshire businesses and organisations. The network provides sustainable travel promotions and advice for employees at Herefordshire businesses. Complete the registration to join Travel for Work Hereford network.

How much can I apply for?
There are three levels of funding available:
|Level||Type of facilities||Maximum amount
you can apply for
|1. Standard||Any facilities that support sustainable travel or reduce business car use||£2,000|
|2. Cycle parking
(organisations up to 250 employees)
|Cycle parking only||£3,000|
3. Cycle parking
|Cycle parking only||£5,000|
The grant can cover 100% of eligible project costs up to the maximum grant amounts. The balance of any items that exceed the maximum will have to be met by yourselves.
Can we apply for more than one facility? For example, bikes AND clothes lockers?
Businesses can apply for funding for more than one facility, including installation costs, as part of a level 1 standard grant up to a maximum of £2,000.
Please ensure that all facilities are included in one application, as you can only submit one application per annum.
If you choose to apply for a level 2 or level 3 grant (£3,000 or £5,000 maximum) please note that these grants are only for cycle parking and you cannot apply for any other facilities this year.
I received a grant last year. Can I apply again this year?
Businesses/organisations who are members of the Travel for Work network can make one TravelFund grant application per financial year (1 April to 31 March). Grant funding is only available up until end of 2019/20.
Are there any exclusions?
We are unable to offer grant funding for facilities that have been conditioned as part of the planning permission for a new development. We are also unable to offer grant funding for facilities that have been specified as part of the Outline Travel Plan agreed for a new development on the Skylon Park Hereford Enterprise Zone.
I don't own my business premises. Can I install new facilities?
If you rent your business premises you will need to have written agreement that your landlord is happy for you to install permanent facilities. This may be in your business lease agreement with your landlord, but if not you will need to secure permission specifically for the proposed facilities.
Is any other funding available?
A separate scheme offers cycle parking stands for business premises. You can apply for this in addition to the TravelFund grant. This scheme is managed by Life Cycle UK on behalf of Herefordshire Council. Contact us or visit Life Cycle UK for more information.
