A big thank you for helping us to recycle 40 percent of our waste last year in Herefordshire.

We collect your recycling fortnightly using green wheeled bins. Where wheeled bins are not appropriate, recycling is collected using the clear plastic sacks we provide.

Our recycling collection guides are available to download which you could put on your fridge or noticeboard as a handy reminder.

Please put the following clean and dry items into your recycling bin or clear sack:

We are not yet able to recycle some waste including foil, polystyrene, cling film, plastic bags and brown and black plastics. View a list of items you cannot put in your recycling bin.

Food tins and drink cans

  • Food tins
  • Drink cans
  • Aerosol cans
  • Sweet and biscuit tins
  • Metal jar lids

Remember to

  • Please wash all tins and push lids inside or remove. Remove container seals.
  • Tip - Labels can be left on and no need to squash

Plastic bottles and containers

Please wash all bottles and remove any pump sprays and lids. Please wash all containers and remove plastic film which cannot be recycled.

  • Drinks, milk and juice bottles
  • Detergent, fabric conditioner, cleaning and bleach bottles
  • Shampoo, conditioner and other toiletry bottles
  • Yoghurt, cream and custard, soup and sauce pots
  • Margarine and ice cream tubs
  • Fruit and vegetable punnets, plastic meat and fish trays
  • Cake and pastry trays
  • Hard plastic caps and lids

Remember to

  • Rinse bottles and containers
  • Remove tops, lids, pumps
  • Remove plastic film and foil which cannot be recycled
  • Tip - Labels can be left on and no need to squash

No black or brown plastic

Paper

  • Newspapers and magazines
  • Phone directories
  • Catalogues and brochures
  • Junk mail and leaflets
  • Letters
  • Greetings cards
  • Paperback books
  • Envelopes

Remember to:

  • Keep paper flat
  • Remove plastic wrappers
  • Tip - Take hardback books to a charity shop or book bank
  • Tip - You can compost your shredded paper at home

Please do not include tissue, toilet roll, paper towels, or shiny wrapping paper.

Cartons

  • Milk, juice, smoothies, soup, chopped tomatoes, custard, fabric conditioner cartons

Cardboard

Break large cardboard boxes into smaller pieces

  • Cardboard boxes, for example cereal boxes, ready meal boxes
  • Corrugated and thick cardboard boxes
  • Egg boxes
  • Kitchen and toilet roll tube

Mixed glass bottles and jars (for recycling bins only)

Please do not place glass bottles and jars in recycling sacks for your own safety.

  • Glass bottles

  • Metal caps and lids

Remember to

  • Rinse bottles and jars
  • Tip - Labels can be left on and all colours accepted

No lids, corks or caps

Please remember:

  • Rinse out all food and drink containers
  • Only clean and dry recyclable items
  • Place items loose into the bin - no bags or carriers
  • Labels can be left on
  • No need to squash cans, bottles, plastics or cartons
