Parks, play areas and open spaces

Herefordshire Council manages a wide range of public open spaces across the county from small village recreation grounds to larger formal parks in Hereford City and the county towns.

These public open spaces offer you and your family a place to retreat from the hustle-bustle of town life and provide a safe haven in which you can enjoy various leisure pursuits or simply relax and take some fresh air.

There are also lots of exciting children's play areas to visit and explore - suitable for different ages and various sports pitches available for hire.

All play areas undergo regular safety checks to ensure they are not damaged by vandalism or natural wear and tear and continue to meet health and safety requirements.

All equipment in these play areas complies with British Safety Standards and new play areas we install now also comply with the European Safety Guidelines and the Disability Discrimination Act. The council's play areas are maintained by our contractor.

The council also provides an annual independent playground inspection which is undertaken by a qualified member of the Register of Playground Inspectors International (RPII).

To make sure everyone can enjoy these spaces, please remember:

  • Please take all litter home or use the bins where provided
  • Please clean up after your dog at all sites, even where bins are not provided
  • The driving of motor vehicles is prohibited
  • Camping is prohibited
  • Lighting of fires is prohibited
