About the Herefordshire Healthy Schools Programme

The Herefordshire Healthy Schools Programme provides a template for teaching, planning, tracking and monitoring the health and wellbeing of children and young people in primary and secondary schools.

The programme aims to help support and celebrate the good work in schools around the following four themes:

  • Emotional health and wellbeing
  • Physical activity
  • Healthy food, drink and oral health
  • Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education (schools only)

Accreditation scheme

The programme includes a free accreditation scheme where schools can be awarded 'Healthy Schools Status' after demonstrating that they can meet criteria set out in the above four themes.

A dedicated team from Herefordshire Council's Public Health Team will provide advice and support to teachers and professionals to help you achieve the award.

By working towards the award, education settings will be able to not only improve the health and wellbeing of children and their families, but will also be meeting a range of local and national priorities.

How to sign up

All Herefordshire education settings can now sign up to the new scheme.

Once you've registered you will be provided with access to our easy to use, interactive assessment tool 'the Wheel' that will support you to evidence your school's approach to health and wellbeing.
