Private renting deposit and bond scheme

For tenants

Our bond scheme supports tenants who are homeless or facing homelessness to access private rented accommodation. The scheme can provide you with the first month’s rent and a deposit bond.

We will conduct a financial assessment to ensure the property is affordable for you and will give you advice on other schemes available to you.

If you are homeless or facing homelessness, please contact our Triage team in the first instance. They are open Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm. You can contact them in person at Blueschool House or via telephone 01432 261600.

To access the bond scheme you must show that:

  • You are eligible for homelessness assistance
  • You are homeless or facing homelessness
  • You have no other way to pay your deposit
  • The property is affordable for you

For landlords

We will carry out an affordability check with the prospective tenant and ensure that they have no outstanding council debts. If your property is let to a tenant using the scheme, you will receive a council bond which covers any damages/arrears to the value of the agreed deposit. The bond can be claimed against at the end of the tenancy. We will also provide support and advice by telephone and online, including a named contact within the team.

We also take on properties under licence for use as temporary accommodation. Your property would be used to accommodate homeless applications and managed by the temporary accommodation team. Ideally your property would be in one of the market towns and 1 to 4 bedrooms.
