“All that Fayre commonly called the Nine Dayes Fayre to be kept yearly from tyme to tyme within the month of May” – a history of Hereford’s May Fair
The charter for a fair, to be held on the feast of St Ethelbert and two days following was granted to the Bishop of Hereford in 1121 as a way of raising money for the Cathedral. Cathedral Archivist Elizabeth Semper O’Keefe explores the history of this ancient fair.
