Sutton Walls hillfort is one of the most important and intriguing hillforts in Herefordshire.
Sutton Walls hillfort is one of the most important and intriguing hillforts in Herefordshire. From the Iron Age to the early Medieval period, and again in the last 100 years, it has gained a prominence that most other hillforts in the county have not shared. Archaeological excavations by famous archaeologist Kathleen Kenyon in 1948-51, uncovered a mystery as well as 2000 year old houses, ramparts and some of the most amazing artefacts that are now held in the museum collections. The site is under the protection of Historic England assisted by the volunteer run Sutton Walls Conservation Group.
