SP 8 - Urban assemblage

Code
SP 8
Priority species or species assemblage
Urban assemblage
Description
This includes the following species: Swift, House Martin and Greenfinch
Wider environmental benefits
Reducing climate change impact
Assemblage measure 1
Installation of nest bricks
Assemblage measure 1 description
Urban Species depend on areas for them to be able to build their nests. With the decrease in trees in the urban environment compared with the rural one the opportunity to find a space is limited. The construction of nest bricks provides species such as Swift a preferred habitat for them to be able to create their nest away from predators.
Assemblage measure 2
Promote improved garden bird feeding hygiene measures to mitigate the effects of avian disease.
Assemblage measure 2 description
Within the garden and urban environment diseases can be spread quickly through a population. A common way for this to happen is from pathogens being left on bird feeders and bird baths within gardens. Increasing the cleaning of them can decrease the rate of infection within bird populations.
