SP 3 - Conifer clearfell / heathland assemblage

Code
SP 3
Priority species or species assemblage
Conifer clearfell / heathland assemblage
Description
This includes three bird species: Nightjar, Woodlark and Willow Warbler, and two moth species: Broom-tip and Lead-coloured Pug. These species thrive in conifer clearfell, areas of conifer plantation which have been cleared, and heathland to provide their specific habitat requirements.
Wider environmental benefits
Reducing climate change impact
Assemblage measure 1
Restore and manage conifer clearfell habitats
Assemblage measure 1 description
Restoration and management of these woodland habitats for these species will support population recovery. Habitat measures for heathland will also support Nightjar populations and wood pasture and parkland measures will also support Woodlark populations.
Assemblage measure 2
Increase the availability of foodplants
Assemblage measure 2 description
The availability of foodplants, Broom for the Broom-tip moth and Common Cow-wheat for Lead-coloured Pug moth, will be vital for their populations. These foodplants should be targeted for creation and management in heathland habitats, with Common Cow-wheat to be targeted in Dymock, Haugh Wood and older woodlands in particular.
