Code
SP 18
Priority species or species assemblage
Water Vole
Wider environmental benefits
Reducing climate change impact
Species measure 1
Control American Mink populations for population recovery
Species measure 1 description
American Mink are key predators for water voles, having been introduced in the early 20th century for fur farming and then escaped captivity or been deliberately released. Mink have few natural predators, and thus their presence along watercourses can have detrimental effect on water vole populations. Mink populations must be controlled to enable Water Vole populations to recover.
