- Priority description
-
The archaeology, history and heritage of Herefordshire is rich, varied, and diverse. It is highly valued and core to the identity of the county and its people. It is as much at risk from land use decisions and climate change as the natural world and has been degraded in the same way as our natural world through an ever-accelerating agricultural intensification, land-use change and development. Knowing how the land has been used in the past can inform, enrich, enhance, and support every aspect of nature recovery. By recognising this shared heritage and the shared threats both environmental benefits and historic ones can be achieved. There are 146 Local Geological Sites and 20 SSSIs designated for their geology in Herefordshire, including one of global significance.
