This policy document explains how Herefordshire Council will comply with the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA) in relation to directed surveillance, use of covert human intelligence sources and the acquisition of communications data.

This policy is supplementary to the legislation, the statutory code of practice and the Home Office guidance to local authorities in England and Wales on the judicial approval process for RIPA and the crime threshold for directed surveillances.
