Details of provision service

Severn Mentoring delivers high-quality, relationship-led Alternative Provision designed to support children and young people who may be struggling to engage within mainstream education. Our bespoke programmes combine academic support, mentoring, and personal development to address barriers to learning while promoting confidence, resilience, and positive behaviour. Each placement is carefully tailored in partnership with schools, local authorities, and families to ensure clear outcomes, consistent communication, and measurable progress.

What strengthens our provision further is our commitment to learning beyond the classroom. We recognise that for many young people, engagement begins when education feels relevant, active, and purposeful. Physical activity and sport are therefore thoughtfully embedded within our programmes, providing powerful opportunities to develop teamwork, self-discipline, emotional regulation, and social skills. Through structured activities — from fitness and wellbeing sessions to sport-based challenges — learners experience success in different forms, often rediscovering motivation and self-belief along the way.

We actively utilise community facilities and local partnerships to extend learning into real-world environments, helping young people build a sense of belonging while strengthening their connection to the communities around them. These experiences support not only physical health but also mental wellbeing, offering positive outlets for energy, reducing anxiety, and encouraging healthier lifestyle habits that can last well into adulthood.

Delivered by experienced practitioners in safe, structured environments, our provision is flexible, responsive, and focused on sustainable re-engagement — whether the goal is a successful return to school, transition into specialist provision, preparation for further education, training, employment, or meaningful reintegration into the community. By combining therapeutic mentoring, personalised learning, and enriching physical experiences, Severn Mentoring creates a balanced pathway that supports the whole young person, not just their academic progress.

Our provision covers the following:

Ross - on - Wye
Ledbury
Bromyard
Leominster
Hereford
Hay - on - Wye

Accreditations

Severn Mentoring is led by an experienced leadership team with extensive backgrounds in primary education, higher and further education and pupil support, bringing a deep understanding of the complexities schools face and the strategies required to help young people thrive. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Deputy DSLs, and Operations Managers are all trained to Level 3 Safeguarding, with every member of staff holding a minimum of Level 2 Safeguarding certification — ensuring a strong, vigilant safeguarding culture underpins everything we do.

Our team is comprehensively trained in Lone Working, GDPR, Data Protection, Mentoring and Coaching, and Safer Recruitment, creating a professional workforce that operates with integrity, accountability, and the highest standards of care. This robust training framework allows schools and local authorities to commission our provision with confidence, knowing that safety, compliance, and professionalism are embedded at every level of delivery.

What truly sets Severn Mentoring apart is the breadth of our practical experience supporting children and young people within primary school environments and beyond. Having worked alongside schools for many years, we understand how to build trusted relationships, respond proactively to emerging needs, and implement interventions that lead to meaningful, measurable progress. Our approach blends structure with empathy — enabling learners to re-engage, rebuild confidence, and experience success.

To further enhance outcomes, we work in partnership with leading digital platforms such as Learntrek and CENTURY. Learntrek strengthens collaboration between providers, local authorities, parents, and schools through transparent communication and real-time data that evidences impact. Meanwhile, CENTURY allows us to deliver highly personalised tuition either in person or remotely, adapting to each learner’s pace and ability. By recognising effort, participation, and progress — not just final attainment — the platform creates consistent “small wins” that motivate learners and help restore positive learning behaviours.

Together, our expertise, rigorous training, and innovative partnerships position Severn Mentoring as a trusted, forward-thinking provider committed to delivering safe, impactful, and truly individualised support.
