Living with Covid-19

As Covid-19 restrictions are lifted, this is not the end of the virus, so we ask you to continue with the good habits you have formed during the restrictions, wherever and whenever possible.

These include:

  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water
  • Wear face coverings where required* and in crowded areas, and give people plenty of space
  • Trying to stay at home if you feel unwell
  • Get your booster jab as soon as you are eligible
  • Take up the offer of the flu vaccinations
  • Make sure there's good ventilation in indoor spaces, or meet others outside

* In England, although face coverings are no longer required by law, the government suggests that you continue to wear a face covering in crowded and enclosed spaces where you may come into contact with other people you do not normally meet. Face coverings are, however, still required to be worn in healthcare settings such as GP surgeries, hospitals and vaccination centres, as well as by staff in social care settings where there is exposure to vulnerable people.

With restrictions lifting, we understand that some people may want to stay cautious, so please use this print at home poster to place near your door to remind delivery drivers to continue to play their part and wear a mask while on your property.

Testing

From 1 April, the government will no longer provide free PCR and rapid lateral flow tests for the general public in England. There will be some limited ongoing free testing:

  • Limited PCR tests will be available for a small number of at-risk groups. The government will set out further details on which groups will be eligible
  • Free PCR tests will remain available to social care staff

The government is currently working with retailers and pharmacies to help establish the private market in testing.

Stay at home if you feel unwell

If you feel unwell you should stay at home if you can and avoid contact with other people to prevent spreading infections.

Staying safe in schools, colleges and early years

If your child is unwell they should not attend school. They should also avoid meeting people at higher risk of becoming seriously unwell from Covid-19, especially those with a severely weakened immune system, for the 10 days after symptoms started (or the day a test was taken if they did not have symptoms). Children and young people who were previously identified as clinically vulnerable are advised to continue to follow Guidance for people previously considered clinically extremely vulnerable from Covid-19. Young people over the age of 12 with a weakened immune system should follow Guidance for people whose immune system means they are at higher risk from Covid-19.

In some circumstances, a child or young person may have received personal advice from their specialist or clinician on additional precautions to take and they should continue to follow that advice.

We have a Money on Your mind section if you're finding it difficult to cope with money or debt problems, perhaps you've lost your job or your hours have been reduced, it can leave you feeling stressed and anxious. It's important to remember you're not alone.

Mental wellbeing

We are aware that the circumstances caused by the pandemic may have an effect on a child's mental wellbeing. The Talk Community website provides local and national mental health and wellbeing support and advice. The NHS Every Mind Matters website also has advice for parents and guardians for looking after the mental wellbeing of children and young people during Covid and there is also a separate section on the website providing mental health and self-care tips for young people.

 

We're searching for the stories of those special people that helped others during Covid

Do you know someone who did something special during the pandemic? If so, we want to hear about them.

We're not talking about doctors and nurses, whose brilliance has been recognised in other ways.

We're talking about so-called ordinary people. People in the community, local businesses, organisations - even friends and family members who went out of their way to help others. People who picked up prescriptions, delivered shopping, worked in food banks, checked in on vulnerable people… whatever they did to help others.

We think it's important to remember and to tell the story of the amazing Herefordshire community spirit that has pulled together throughout Covid, and celebrate all that is good about Herefordshire and its people.

We have a fabulous archive of photographs from lockdown - so it would be great to have the stories to go along side this to be kept for posterity and to be looked back on to see how our lives changed.
