Hereford Register Office

Hereford Register Office is at 8 St Owen Street, Hereford HR1 2PJ.

Our office opening hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm.

If you are registering a birth, death, stillbirth or notice of marriage or civil partnership, you will need to make an appointment:

  • Most births and notice appointments can be made using our online register office booking form.
  • Staff from the Register Office will contact you to make death registration appointments.
  • For any other appointments, please contact us using the details at the bottom of the page.

8 St Owen Street is the building next door to Hereford Town Hall. Our entrance is to the side of the building. From St Owen Street, walk through the alley between the Town Hall on the left and 8 St Owen Street on the right and the entrance is on the right hand side.

The car park at the Town Hall is only available pay and display on Saturdays, except for disabled parking. The nearest car park is Gaol Street car park a short walk away.

If the door from the internal lobby does not open, please ring the intercom and a member of staff will facilitate access. Please take a seat in the waiting area when you arrive and the registrar will come and collect you for your appointment or ceremony.

You can order copy certificates online or you can order over the phone and select option 1.

If you are attending a citizenship ceremony, these ceremonies are held at the Town Hall not the Register Office. Access to the Town Hall is through the main entrance from St Owen Street or the accessible entrance at the rear of the building.

If you have a general enquiry and do not have an appointment, you can contact us by email using the contact details below. If you need to speak to someone at the office, please ring the intercom and a member of staff from the office will help with your enquiry.

Relocation of the Register Office

The Register Office will be relocating during April 2026. We will be moving to Gardner Hall (part of the old College for the Blind) in Venns Lane, Hereford. Customers will be advised nearer the time if their appointment or ceremony is at the new location. A photo of the new location is shown below.

Ceremonies

Our statutory ceremonies take place at 9.30am each day Mondays to Thursdays only (except bank holidays). These are basic ceremonies with the couple, the registrars and two witnesses only. Please do not attend with any additional guests, as they will not be permitted access.

From April 2026, these ceremonies will take place at our new register office location at Gardner Hall, Venns Lane, Hereford.

We are now taking bookings for the ceremony venue, The Woollard Room at Gardner Hall, which will be available from 20 April 2026 onwards. The room can accommodate up to 70 people and will be available Mondays to Saturdays between 10am and 7pm (except bank holidays).

Prices for the Woollard Room start at £565, which includes the attendance of the registrars and the booking of the venue.
