Business rates: Report a change to your business
In order to correctly calculate your business rates liability and send businesses the right bill, it's essential that you contact us if there's a change in your circumstances.
If the change in circumstances is for any of the following reasons you should email businessrates@herefordshire.gov.uk:
- Vacating your current property
- Occupying a new property
- Relocating
- Change of contact or correspondence address
- Notify the death of a business rate payer
- Change your method of payment
- Stop a business rate relief entitlement
- Change of occupation status - occupied or empty
Changes to tell the Valuation Office Agency
There are some changes to your business that you'll have to tell the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) about. The sort of change the VOA needs to know about is called a 'Material Change in Circumstances' (MCC) and are usually major changes to your business property.
The VOA will want to know about:
- Part of your property being demolished
- Extensions or internal alterations to your property
- Any major structural alterations which are made to your property
- A change of use of the property
- Where a property is merged with additional properties
- Where a property is split into multiple properties
You should contact your local Valuation Office with details of your property and the possible change.
Please note, while your rateable value change is being processed by the VOA, your current rates are due and payable.
