As a principle, the Award is open to young people of all abilities. It is committed to offering all young people equal opportunities of access to all activities and events.
The Award does not provide a single programme of activities for everyone to follow; there is no set standard to be reached. Instead, the young people set a challenge that is relevant to them, and these will be as different as the people that participate. Everyone has an equal chance of success within the activities they choose if they reach the goal they have set for themselves.
As the Award is designed to allow each individual to choose their activities and take up his or her own personal challenges it is ideally suited to people with Special Needs.
Award leaders and volunteers are given the flexibility and trust to make informed decisions to offer programmes to participants within the Awards aims and principles.
