Access Organisations and Ventures

If your Organisation intends to deliver the expedition or exploration section of the Award you must follow all the guidance and requirements specified for Award Groups.

Please refer to Checklist for Ventures page for more information.

In particular, note that:

  • All ventures must be run to the standards of the DofE. Ventures should be registered with the Operating Authority using the OV5 form, have approval from their Centre Manager and the relevant risk assessments.
  • As Access Organisation participants, your young people are not registered with the Award Scheme, and are therefore not covered by the Award Insurance. You will need to organise appropriate insurance cover.
  • Expedition training must be delivered by suitably experienced and qualified staff, and participants should be trained to the required standard and must show competence in all of the various skills. All participants must be suitably equipped and know how to use emergency equipment.
  • To qualify as an DofE venture, an expedition must be assessed by approved assessors, who should be independent of the group.
