The Award Access Organisation initiative recognises that many
schools, youth groups, clubs and societies are providing activities
for young people that could count towards their DofE Award.
They might be involved in activities that could involve helping others, taking part in a sport, developing skills and interests or taking part in expeditions or outdoor activities. If a group becomes an 'Access Organisation' they can help the young people gain recognition through the Award.
The young people do not have to commit themselves to registering for the full Award programme, although they can be encouraged to do this. When the young person enters the Award scheme, they receive credit for the completed units.
There are some requirements of an Access Organisation (such as keeping records), and you have to have Health & Safety and Child Protection policies in place, but overall the process is straightforward. Even if an organisation is already an Award Group, they can become an Access Organisation.
Once an Access Organisation has been signed up, the agreement is reviewed every three years.
