The role of the Award Group Leader
Each D of E Group must have a Leader and other helpers/leaders appropriate to the number of young people in the unit. The D of E Leader is expected to provide and/or to ensure that:
- The safety standards laid down by Herefordshire Operating Authority in conjunction with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award are maintained.
- The standards of the Award, as specified in the Award Handbook, are maintained.
- There are opportunities for the D of E Manager, or a representative, to discuss issues with the D of E Leader.
- Expedition Training for journeys in Wild Country is delivered led and supervised by appropriately qualified persons, see the Competency Matrix page for more information.
- The County Award Office is notified of the intention to undertake all expedition journeys (both practice and assessed) and of the subsequent outcome of all journeys undertaken in Wild Country areas, see the Checklist for Ventures page for more information.
- The recruitment and subsequent involvement of volunteers in the Award will be undertaken using Herefordshire Youth Service guidelines on volunteers.
- All equipment loaned from the County is returned promptly after its use in a clean condition, with a note attached to the equipment where any damage or loss has occurred.
- The information required for annual and quarterly statistics is provided to the Award Office.
