The role of the Herefordshire Operating Authority
The County Award Officer is responsible for all aspects of the Award covered by Herefordshire Council's Operating Authority Licence.
We meet the requirements of the Agreement between the Herefordshire County Council and the Award Groups by:
- Ensuring the standards of The Award are maintained.
- Providing free advice and information relating to The Award to groups and participants.
- Issuing Record Packs and other literature within 14 days of receipt of order, subject to availability from the headquarters of The Award Scheme.
- Approving Bronze, Silver and Gold Record Books and issuing certificates and badges. We endeavour to approve correctly completed Books within 14 days of receipt.
- Providing promotional material to groups - leaflets, posters etc.
- Providing free loan of promotional videos and equipment.
- Providing free loan of expedition equipment.
- Providing an annual visit to the establishment by arrangement between the Unit/School and the Award Officer or Development Worker.
- Offering specific certified training in expedition leadership, supervision and assessment for leaders.
- Providing training opportunities in the Award and Youth Work practice for adult leaders.
- Providing access to all the Award Leadership programmes for young people.
- Arranging annual visits to the unit to monitor the young people's Award programme and to offer advice to participants and/or adults. Other visits may be arranged in consultation with the Award Officer or Development Officer.
- Providing access to Youth and Community Service's facilities and resources including the hiring of minibuses.
- Ensuring adequate insurance for participants and leaders. (Further information on this is available from the Development Officer.)
- Distributing relevant information to all units, along with the Midland Regional News and the nationally published 'Award Journal'.
