Checklist for ventures

All Award Groups operating under the Herefordshire Council Operating Authority must follow the guidance and procedures for Off-site visits issued by the Council. A copy of the Guidance Folder is available in all schools in the Authority.

Before the final expedition Group leaders must be able to show that:

  • training has been given in safety precautions, basic first aid, navigation, country code, camp craft, observation, recording, and the purpose of the venture.
  • the training has been signed off in each participants Record Book.
  • at least one practice venture has been undertaken in a similar type of environment and the appropriate page has been signed in the Record Book.
  • instruction has been given by experienced/qualified persons acceptable to the Operating Authority.
  • If the venture is to be in Wild Country, or on water, an Expedition Notification Number has been issued by the relevant Wild Country Panel.

The training and the assessment should be carried out and signed off by two different people at all levels.

A checklist of equipment for expeditions can be found on the Award website
