Gold Award

Age limits

Start at 16
The upper age limit for all Awards is 25.

Time needed

It would usually take between 12-18 months to complete a Gold Award. The table below gives a breakdown of the different sections of the award and their timescales.

 

  Service Skills Physical Recreation Exploration or Expedition Residential Project
Time Requirement 12 Months One section of 6 months and one of 12 months Training and Practice Journeys followed by the qualifying venture, which must be 4 days (of 8 hours activity per day) and 3 nights camping 5 days and 4 nights in unfamiliar surroundings
Time spent on these activities can be flexible, but should average at least an hour a week.

Participants who have not completed their Silver Award must undertake a further 6 months in either the Service or the longer of the Skills or Physical Recreation Sections.
