Why this is part of the Award

This section is to encourage participation and improvement in physical activity.

What do I have to do?

The first stage is to identify the type of activity you might be able to do and check with your group leader to make sure it is on the approved list.

At the start, work with a coach or assessor and set out your personal goals for the activity. Monitor your progress over a period, and see how much you have improved by your final review.

Whenever possible you should take part in the sport through a club or organisation approved by the relevant governing body. Activities should follow all national governing body safety requirements.

What do I get out of it?

You can discover new abilities, and keep fit by choosing an activity you enjoy.

Some examples of activities in the Physical Recreation Section.

Archery, Athletics, Basketball, Croquet, Cricket, Dance, Fencing, Football, Golf, Keep fit, Netball, Rounders, Rugby, Swimming, Table tennis, Volleyball.

For more information see the Physical section of the Duke of Edinburgh Award website.
