The Duke of Edinburgh's Award offers an individual challenge to young people between the ages of 14 and 25. Anyone can take part, you do not need any experience or special qualifications, just a willingness to have a go.
Everyone gets different things out of the Award, because there is such a wide range of options. You can try something new or different without having to do anything you don't want to do.
There are three levels to the award: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Within each level you complete activities in four sections - Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and Expeditions, with a fifth Residential Project section at Gold level.
People do the Award for lots of different reasons. Some do it because their friends are doing it. Others because they think it will help them get a job (and there is no doubt that employers see the Award as a pretty impressive achievement), and some do it for the challenge. Whatever the reason, everyone that completes the Award knows that they have achieved something special - and they had a lot of fun along the way.
