Browsealoud is a free plugin that enables web pages to be read to you.
Browsealoud may help those people who have a good understanding of the English language but do not find reading easy. It is, however, not suitable for the visually impaired.
If you install the Browsealoud plugin on your PC, you can have the web pages on the Herefordshire Council website read to you as well as other websites that are speech-enabled. As you move the cursor over text, it is spoken aloud. You can also customize the voice, word pronunciations and speech highlighting.
Browsealoud is a Windows browser plug-in designed for use with Internet Explorer 4 upwards or Netscape Navigator. Your computer must have a sound card fitted for Browsealoud to work and you will need speakers, or headphones.
Once the installation is complete the Browsealoud icon will be placed in your system tray which is at the bottom right of your computer. If you double click this icon it will open the Browsealoud application.
