Licence summary To put a builder's skip on a public road, you need a permit from the local authority.

In accordance with Section 139 of the Highways Act 1980, any skip placed within the highway requires the permission of the Highway Authority. A charge of £25 per week will be levied for every week or part thereof during which the skip is allowed to remain on the highway. This is to cover the costs of the administration by the Authority.

Please complete the application form, together with the fee of £25 for every week or part thereof you wish the skip to be placed on the highway.

Application Evaluation Process Permission may be given subject to conditions which may relate to the following:
  • siting the skip
  • skip dimensions
  • making skips visible to traffic
  • care and disposal of skip contents
  • lighting and guarding of skips
  • skip removal
Will Tacit Consent Apply? Yes. This means that you will be able to act as though your application is granted if you have not heard from the local authority by the end of the target completion period of 10 working days.
