The HLAF is a statutory body set up by Herefordshire Council under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000. The role of the forum is to improve public access to land for the purposes of open air recreation and enjoyment. The Herefordshire countryside is renowned for its beautiful and varied landscape and the Forum will be helping to ensure that opportunities for access and exploration are fully considered.
The Forum is a voluntary body with 22 members, appointed to represent landowners, users of the land and those with other interests. The Forum will advise the Local Authority and other bodies on access issues and will also consider wider strategic issues such as Herefordshire Rights of Way Improvement Plan.
The Herefordshire Local Access Forum is currently seeking several new members. Members must be able to work constructively with other members of this statutory advisory body to give advice to Herefordshire Council and Natural England on securing improvement of public access to the countryside for open-air recreational purposes. This advice must address social, economic and environmental interests and issues of local relevance. The main forum meets 3 to 4 times a year sometimes in Hereford itself and sometimes in other locations countywide. There are also a number of sub-groups in which members may participate. Membership is voluntary but reasonable travel expenses are paid. An outline of the position, a job description and person specification is available to download from the resources box on the HLAF Information Page.
