Results of Bus Service Tenders
Many bus services are provided by bus companies without any
involvement by the Council. These are termed "commercial"
services. The Council adds to this commercial network by
entering into contracts with bus companies to provide
subsidised services on its behalf. Under the Transport Act,
1985 all interested bus operators must be given an
opportunity to bid for these contracts and the Council is
required to publish the results of these tendering exercises.
The files in the Resources Box below are the results of the
tendering exercises carried out in the last three years.
Results from earlier years are available from the Public
Transport Manager, whose contact details appear on the Public
Transport home page. Under the Transport Act, the details we
are required to publish for each contract are:
- The name of the successful tenderer
- The value of the winning tender
- The number of tenders received
- The value of the highest tender received
- The value of the lowest tender received
- An explanation, if necessary, as to why the lowest tender
was not the winning tender.
Tendering generally takes place twice a year in Spring and
Autumn and the results are published annually.
This information is published in order to fulfil the Council's
duties under sections 90 and 91 of the Transport Act 1985.
