What is so good about cycling?

Why cycle and Bike for All websites give loads of reasons why cyclists do it and plenty of advice on choosing a bicycle, how to get started and also tips on cycling do's and don'ts.

Cycle maintenance

It pays to keep your bicycle in tip top condition. Follow this link to the London Cyclist website for a novice's guide to basic cycle maintenance.

The CTC website has a handy eight page Basic Cycle Maintenence guide.

You may also like to check out this online repair manual which will appeal to those seeking more technical guidance.

Why do it alone?

Cycle commuters can now share the pleasure through the Twoshare journey share site. Cyclists can register at http://www.twoshare.co.uk/ and then post journeys just like car sharers do already - where it asks if you are 'offering a lift' drop down the list and choose 'looking for a BikeBudi'. This is a relatively new facility, so please pass it on to other cyclists and encourage them to register.

National Cycle Collection

This museum is just across the border in Llandrindod Wells and boasts over 250 bicycles of all ages on display along with lots of cycle related memorabilia. They encourage school visits to the museum or alternatively they can come out and visit schools with a variety of machines. See their website at www.cyclemuseum.org.uk   or tel 01597 825531 for more details.

Park & Cycle

Park and Cycle logo Now there's a new initiative to help people who want to cycle to work, college, school and other events.

Park & Cycle is operated by Herefordshire Council in partnership with businesses and organisations throughout the county.

Many people would love to be able to cycle to work or to college but often journeys may just be too far to manage by bike. Park & Cycle offers a staging post, providing convenient locations for people to break their journey, park their car and continue by bike, making the most of traffic-free routes.

The end result is one less car on the road and easier journeys for everyone
