Business Travel Plans
The Sustainable Travel team work with businesses and employers across Herefordshire to develop Travel Plans. A Travel Plan is a package of practical measures developed by an organisation to encourage more people to travel sustainably, avoiding travelling alone by car wherever possible. Travel Plans can start with the simplest of ideas:- Promoting local bus and rail services to your site
- Providing secure cycle racks/ shelters, storage lockers and shower facilities
- Purchasing pool/ folding bicycle and accessories for company use
- Encouraging car-sharing (two or more people per vehicle)
- Improving the safety of walking and cycling routes e.g. installing additional lighting.
Travel Plans can bring a number of benefits to an organisation and staff
Benefits for a company include:
- potential cost savings
- reduced demand for car parking and improved access
- reduced congestion on roads around your site
- greater staff travel choice can be a recruitment incentive
- a healthier more productive workforce
The Sustainable Travel Officer can provide further guidance on developing a Travel Plan. To encourage and support businesses to develop travel plans we also provide a small grants scheme - Travel Fund, which provides grants up to £1,000.
