This project is designed to encourage people with learning disabilities to improve their awareness of, and get involved in politics. It involves training a group of people with learning disabilities to themselves become trainers, and to then deliver training events across the county to other people with learning disabilities.
A launch event was held in October 2008 at Withington Village Hall which attracted 43 people (25 people with learning disabilities), and was very successful. A review of that event can be found in the box below.
A trainer was recruited to train a group of people with learning disabilities to themselves become trainers. 5 people completed the 8-week course. They were visited during their training course by a Parliamentary Candidate, Member of Parliament, and local Councillor.
In association with Herefordshire Mencap, a number of awareness sessions are usually planned in the run-up to local and national elections, these usually take place in Hereford, Leominster and Ross-on-Wye.
