Taking part in politics

Taking Part in Politics logo This project is designed to encourage people with learning disabilities to improve their awareness of, and get involved in politics.  It involves training a group of people with learning disabilities to themselves become trainers, and to then deliver training events across the county to other people with learning disabilities.

A launch event was held in October 2008 at Withington Village Hall which attracted 43 people (25 people with learning disabilities), and was very successful.  A review of that event can be found in the box below.

A trainer was recruited to train a group of people with learning disabilities to themselves become trainers.  5 people completed the 8-week course.  They were visited during their training course by a Parliamentary Candidate, Member of Parliament, and local Councillor.

In association with Herefordshire Mencap, a number of awareness sessions are usually planned in the run-up to local and national elections, these usually take place in Hereford, Leominster and Ross-on-Wye.
