Race Equality Scheme

The Race Equality Scheme (RES) is the Council's plan setting out how we will promote race equality and make sure that we don't discriminate against individuals or groups based on ethnicity, religion or race.

As a result of the Race Relations Amendment Act (2000), all Local Authorities have a responsibility to produce a Race Equality Scheme based on the demographics of their area. This makes Herefordshire's RES unique to Herefordshire. The RES will ensure that the Council:

  • eliminates unlawful racial discrimination
  • promotes equality of opportunity
  • promotes good relations between people of different racial groups

The document details the policies and functions that the Herefordshire Council needs to have in place in order to comply with the Act. There is also an Action Plan which details how we are going to carry out the work. For example, we have a specific duty to undertake work relating to employment, monitoring, access to information, consultation and training.

The full version of the 2008-2011 RES is attached in the box below.
